What Happens During a Buddhist Funeral Wake?
The following is a typical sequence based on the Buddhist funeral services we arrange in Singapore. Your family's arrangement may vary depending on the chosen rites, wake venue and preferences.

First-day chanting. A Buddhist chanting session is held as the wake begins and the deceased is brought to the wake venue. Families may prepare additional clothes and personal effects to be placed in the coffin. Flammable products containing alcohol or batteries should not be placed inside.

After your first call
If traffic is clear, we can usually reach the place of passing within about an hour to assist your family. Peak-hour traffic may make the journey slightly longer.
Embalming
After collection, embalming typically takes a minimum of three hours. Timing depends on the size of the body and how it responds to the process. The body can then return to the wake venue once the venue is ready.
Wake and tentage setup
For a void deck wake, tentage setup can take longer during busy periods. The recommended setup timing is between 6am and 10pm so that work outside these hours does not unnecessarily disturb neighbours.
Final day
The final-day ceremony typically takes around 3.5 hours from the time our staff arrive at the wake until family members return after cremation or burial. A burial service will usually take longer.
